Web Hosting Provider
I own the domain parkernathan.com, and I personally operate this website from Hot Springs, Arkansas, in the USA. I use WebMate to host my website. WebMate is based out of the UK, with servers in the US and UK. I use their WebMate Lite plan and their Web Builder technology to power it since it provides an affordable way to easily produce and maintain a website without jumping through the complexity of WordPress or other website technologies. I don't have an SSL certificate installed yet since all of my products I sell are on websites outside of my own, and I have a very basic website at the moment. WebMate has been in business for years. I personally know their entire support team. I brought multiple clients to them when I was a web designer, and I personally trust them. WebMate have always been there for me. While the UK government has been in the news about privacy recently, my website is 100% public. There aren't any pages on here the entire world can't see, so I have no issues with having my website hosted on servers in the UK.
Data I Collect
I do not personally collect or track data from people who simply browse my website. I don't have access to any site logs or metrics to see who is visiting my website. I'm sure my web hosting provider does for security reasons, but they are so busy answering tech support requests and handling their everyday tasks that the last thing they have time for is to monitor my site logs or metrics. The only time they would likely review them is in the event someone tried to do something nefarious or attempted to compromise the security of their web hosting infrastructure. If you are simply innocently browsing my website, you have nothing to worry about. My web hosting provider may leverage cookies or cache website data on your system to make the website load faster, but you can always flush your browser to remove this data, and I am not personally using it to track you.
The only time I will know who you are is if you fill out the contact form on my website. I'll receive an email that's no different than my receiving an email from you. I'll know your name, email, the subject line of the email message, and the email message. If you want to email me through the contact form, feel free to. If you don't need to email me, no need to.
I currently sell three products and services: my PhD dissertation, my Substack newsletter, and my Christmas music album. All of these are handled through systems outside of my website (the book store you choose to purchase the book from, Substack for my newsletter, or the music service you purchase or stream my album from). Since I don't control any of those websites, you are bound by their privacy polices when you interact with them. For my PhD dissertation or Christmas album, I don't know who particularly purchased them (although my album provider occasionally gives me an estimate of how many people have purchased it). I simply receive a check about once a year for the royalty payments. For my substack newsletter, if you signup under a free or paid tier, Substack generally shares me your name, email address, and if you signed up as a free or paid follower so that if I needed to go into the system and cancel it out for you, I could.
Sharing your Personal Information
I never personally share or sell anyone's personal information, unless the person I interact with requests that I forward on their message to someone else, or I was required by law to share the information in a limited circumstance (such as if someone attempted to perform a nefarious activity on my website). I believe that the people I interact with have a right to privacy.
When you purchase my book or Christmas album, everything is handled by websites I don't own or control, including their own payment processors. If you want to know what those websites are doing with your personal information, you'll need to reach out to them. Bare minimum, they are at least sharing how many people are purchasing the product (to know how what my royalty payment should be), and what it involves for you to acquire the product digitally or being shipped to you.
My newsletter is hosted on Substack, so you'll want to review their privacy policy to see how Substack handles your personal information. For paid tiers, Substack uses Stripe to process the payments. I'm not a huge fan of it, but that's all they offer at the moment, so I'm stuck with it for the time being.
Cookies
My web hosting provider (WebMate) may use "Cookies", which are small data files placed on your device only if your browser's settings allow it and may include information like previously visited subpages on this website and/or other information. Types of Cookies may include: Session Cookies, Security Cookies or Preference Cookies. You can disable or erase cookies in your browser settings by flushing your browser.
General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a regulation in EU law on data protection and privacy for all individuals within the European Union and the European Economic Area.
If you are a European resident, I am Data Controller of your data and you have the right to know how your personal information is processed, what is collected about you, and to ask that this data to be corrected, updated, or deleted. Additionally, please note that your information may be transferred outside of Europe, including to the United States. Please contact me if you have any questions about your GDPR rights. For more information please contact your local data protection authority.

Data Retention
I only retain any collected information for as long as necessary to provide you with your requested service or unless and until you ask me to delete this information. This would generally be an email message you sent me on my contact form. Once I have finished emailing you back, I will likely delete the email unless I need to retain it or forward it onto someone else. It generally leaves my email app within thirty days of deleting it.
Email Communication
There are only two times when I will personally email you. If you send me an email on my contact form and want me to email you back, I will. Also, if you follow my newsletter on Substack or my weather reports via email, you'll receive emails with new newsletters from me or weather reports. If you no longer wish to receive those email updates, you may opt-out at anytime of receiving them by following the instructions included in each communication. Usually it's an "unsubscribe" link.
Links To Other Websites
I have various links throughout my website that link to websites I don't own or control. If you follow a link to any of these websites, please note that these websites have their own privacy policies outside my personal control. Please review the Privacy Policy of every website you visit before you submit any personal information to any of these websites.
Affiliates
Hosting a website costs money each year. It's not free. I personally pay out of pocket to WebMate to ensure my website is hosted with a quality web hosting provider. There are two ways I make money to help cover my hosting expenses. The first is each time I sell one of my products or services (PhD dissertation book, Christmas album, or Substack newsletter). Since I absolutely hate advertisements, I have chosen not to run advertisements on my website. Instead, I have a few affiliate links. One is to my web hosting provider, WebMate. I make a small commission off any anyone who signs up for web hosting with them through my affiliate link. Another is to MX GuardDog, an email anti-junk mail technology since if I place an affiliate link on my website, I can use the service for free. It's the "Prevent Spam" link in my footer. Lastly, I have a group code with Nota Bene, an academic word processor (NBNP), where I can offer a discount of Nota Bene to people who want it, and receive a small commission in sales in the process. The WebMate and MX GuardDog links are tracked by them to ensure I receive a commission off of the sales, only if you click on the links. Therefore, I recommend viewing their privacy policies if you choose to interact with them. The NBNP group code for Nota Bene is not tracked unless you place an order with them, and all they track with it is how many people are using my group code to purchase it.
Childrens
My website does not address any individuals under the age of 18. By using my website, you represent that you are at least 18 years of age.
Do Not Track
My website does not alter its data collection and use practices when your browser sends Do Not Track signal since I am not personally tracking anyone's personal information.
Business Transfers
I don't have any short-term plans to take this website offline. In the event I do, I would likely archive the content on a flash drive. If I were to pass away, any unanswered responses from my contact form would be handed over to another family member, then they would do as they wish with my website and/or any additional collected information (likely cancel it and delete the information). You acknowledge and consent that such a transfer may occur and is permitted by this Privacy Policy.
Changes
I reserve the right to update or modify this Privacy Policy at anytime without prior notice. I will post these changes on this page so please review this document each time before you provide me with any personal information. This Privacy Policy is effective as of February 1, 2025. Your continued viewing of my website after seven days of any changes or revisions to this Privacy Policy shall indicate your agreement with the new terms. I suggest that you check this Privacy Policy periodically if you are concerned about how your information is used.
Consent
By using my website, you hereby consent to my Privacy Policy and agree to its terms.
